Days of Our Lives Stars Help out at Operation Gratitude.
This past weekend saw a few Days of Our Lives stars taking time out of their busy schedules to do some holiday charity work.
Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans), Jay Kenneth Johnson (Philip Kiriakis) and Leanne Hunley (Anna DiMera) all came out lend their support to Operation Gratitude in Los Angeles on December 13. Operation Gratitude is a non profit volunteer organization that sends over 1,000 care packages to individuals in the U.S. Services while they work overseas. The organization’s mission is to help lift morale and express the American people’s support and appreciation.
The special event included a visit from Santa, who carried a sack of gifts donated by many corporate sponsors and supporters. The gifts included everything from tickets to major sporting events, to an all inclusive vacation to a Caribbean resort, to an autographed Golden Fiddle which was donated by country music legend Charlie Daniels.
Johnson, Hall and Hunley were joined by over one thousand volunteers, as well as such other celebs as Kathy Ireland, Ben Affleck, Los Angeles City Councilman Greig Smith, Sportscasters Ross Porter and Bonnie Jill Laflin, Mayoral candidate Walter Moore, two Junior ROTC units and dozens of Girl and Boy Scout Troops. Members of church, temple, youth, school and Rotary groups were also there as they packed and prepped thousands of care packages. By the end of the event, they had reached the 400,000 mark. This remarkable achievement marks 20 million individual items, more than 2.8 million pounds and $40 million worth of product that Operation Gratitude has sent to overseas troops since 2003.
