Leyla or Nazanin, that is the question.

It’s always interesting to me how easy it is for fans to forget that their favorite soap characters aren’t actual people! To that end, I decided to do an interview series to help us all keep everyone straight! One of the actors I went to was the exotic Nazanin Boniadi, who plays nurse Leyla Mir, and here’s how she differentiated herself from Leyla:

Soap Opera Fan Blog: Describe your idea of a perfect weekend.

Nazanin: Going hiking, to the beach or some sort of exciting outdoor activity. Going to watch a great movie. Cooking up a storm and having close friends and family over, or trying a new restaurant.

Leyla: A few hours buried in her medical textbooks. Getting food delivered and watching a DVD at home with a couple of colleagues and friends.

Soap Opera Fan Blog: What regrets do you have?

Nazanin: None… I don’t dwell over the past, life is in me today, and I make my tomorrow.

Leyla: Living her life to make her parents happy, instead of living it for herself.

Soap Opera Fan Blog: What kind of pet most appeals to you?

Nazanin: A friendly and loyal Golden Retriever.

Leyla: A Persian cat.

Soap Opera Fan Blog: Your choice of comfort food?

Nazanin: Belgian chocolates (the real stuff!)

Leyla: Sugar-free, low-carb, non-fat chocolate. Being a nurse, Leyla is more health conscious than I am.

Soap Opera Fan Blog: If you could change one thing about yourself (besides a physical attribute), what would it be?

Nazanin: I’d want to stop overanalyzing everything and start going with my heart.

Leyla: Leyla would want to start letting loose and stop being so proper.

Soap Opera Fan Blog: What do you and your character have in common?

Nazanin: We were both born in Iran and raised in London, England, and speak fluent Farsi. We’re both very close to our families and have a scientific background.

Soap Opera Fan Blog: What about your character drives you nuts?

Nazanin: Leyla needs to start having more fun. She cares too much about what other people think of her, whether it’s her parents or her colleagues. She needs to unwind and make smart choices. That’s the only way she’ll meet the man of her dreams.

Soap Opera Fan Blog: What, if anything, about your character do you wish described you?

Nazanin: When Leyla sees a guy she likes, she’ll make it known. I wish I had her courage. I’m a lot more shy and reserved than Leyla in that sense, I would NEVER make the first move.
