Soap Opera Fan Blog Chats with Y&R’s Sharon Case!
Sharon on Paris, style, and the future of Daytime!
Soap Opera Fan Blog was so pleased to be able to sit down and speak one-on-one with the gracious and forthcoming Sharon Case of The Young and the Restless. She was so generous in taking questions, that the interview will be published in parts, with the first installment here, and the remainder on our sister site, Soaps.com! We began by asking Sharon about herself.
Soap Opera Fan Blog: Can you give me some background on yourself and how you broke into the acting business, and what other roles you had before Y&R?
Sharon: Sure! I started out modeling, and my modeling auditions started turning into acting auditions; a lot of times modeling agencies do get calls for their models to play roles. So that’s how that happened. I started doing guest spots on different shows as those came up, and then some movies – just all the usual stuff!
Soap Opera Fan Blog: You were on General Hospital at one point, as Monica Quartermaine’s daughter, Dawn, correct?
Sharon: Yes! That was really brief – just over a year.
Soap Opera Fan Blog: You were a dancer (ballet and jazz) when you were young – do you still dance?
Sharon: No, I don’t. I turned eighteen and didn’t have time to do that anymore. It’s fine when you’re in school and you leave school everyday and you go to dance class, but once you’re done with that, you have a different schedule – dance class doesn’t fit into it anymore! I was ready to quit anyway [at age eighteen]. I competed in anything and everything, and actually, I had even done a few [dance] jobs – I did a commercial for a phone company where I was a ballerina – and I did a bunch of music videos where I was a variety of different kinds of dancer. So, as a dancer, I did work, but it was hard because I was under eighteen when I was a dancer – and it’s always very hard to book work when you are under eighteen because the production has to pay fees, you have to go to school, you have to have these Social Services, and all of this craziness – it’s amazing that I booked anything at all! [laughs]
Soap Opera Fan Blog: Our readers would like to know what you do for fun outside of Y&R. Do you have any hobbies, or pets?
Sharon: I have a little dog, a miniature pinscher named Jack – super cute little boy – he’s a good boy! So, I take care of him, and my family lives nearby, and I have a lot of friends, and so I just [spend time with them] – that’s what I do in my spare time!
Soap Opera Fan Blog: Sharon on Y&R is known for being very stylish – do you get to keep any of the wardrobe pieces from the show, or do you ever incorporate your own style into her wardrobe?
Sharon: Well, I don’t keep Sharon’s clothes, but I can borrow them. So, I do that! I think my own personal style is similar to Sharon’s anyway. I learn a lot from our stylists here, Ella Finanche and Jennifer Jones are both great stylists, and they dress Sharon, and I like what they put Sharon in, so my personal wardrobe has become kind of like that. I don’t have to get dressed up to go to work every day, I just come here to the studio. If I’m going out, I might put something like that on of my own, or I might borrow something from Sharon’s closet. I don’t keep it, I just borrow it and bring it back.
Soap Opera Fan Blog: How was the trip to Paris, for the remote [in February]?
Sharon: It was great! It was a beautiful trip.
Soap Opera Fan Blog: We know that your husband went with you. Could you share with us what you did while you were there?
Sharon: Well, I shot every day until 6:00 PM, and then usually what we did, is we would just go out for dinner someplace nearby our hotel, and that was it because you have to get up and go to work the next day! That was pretty much my trip! [laughs]
Soap Opera Fan Blog: Had you been to Paris before?
Sharon: Yes, I’ve spent a lot of time in Paris. I’d already seen all of the exhibits in Paris, there was nothing that I needed to go and see again. There was one new exhibit that I would have gone to see, but I couldn’t, I didn’t have time to go all the way out to Versailles. It was kind of nice to have gone before and seen everything, so [this time] it didn’t feel like trying to race the clock to get all of the exhibits in before I left- because it’s mind-boggling! To go there and just know that you’ve seen it all and you can relax this time was nice.
Soap Opera Fan Blog: How did your husband enjoy being there while you were working? Did he watch you work at all?
Sharon: He was enchanted with Paris, for sure, but he was alone most of the days so he got a little bored. [laughs] He did watch us tape for about an hour one day, that’s it.
Soap Opera Fan Blog: Switching gears to Y&R, Don Diamont [Brad Carlton], has left the show. What was it like sharing some of Don’s final scenes with him in the cabin?
Sharon: It was really nice. It was nice to work with Don, and I felt honored to be part of his last scenes that he did. It was very sad, but I felt like I was a part of his storyline, so it was a big deal.
Soap Opera Fan Blog: What is your opinion on Y&R deciding to kill off Brad – is this just the way it goes?
Sharon: It certainly is the way it goes in soaps, that’s for sure. We’ve all seen that a number of times, and soaps are letting go of a lot of people right now. It seems to be happening all over. It’s not good to have to let any character go, especially after 20 years – they have a large following – but everybody does end up finding themselves in that position one day. It’s just what is going on right now with the ratings and the economy – soaps are downscaling. We’re all concerned for Don Diamont, we’re also all concerned for our own jobs!
Soap Opera Fan Blog: Do you think soap operas are under threat of disappearing altogether, or is it just a rough patch due to the economy?
Sharon: I hope it’s just a rough patch. There’s obviously a rough patch in the economy right now, but a lot of us also think that advertising dollars and ratings – they seem to be going down – but we have this antiquated rating system, the Nielsen ratings! We all think that now that television has become standardized digital, there has to be some way that with that, we can tell what every single television set is watching at all times – without a Nielsen box! This shouldn’t be rocket science to figure out – I think they should make it a priority to figure it out, because if we could get an accurate ratings system, we might see that we have higher ratings than we thought! It’s hard to believe that our ratings are falling because every day when I walk out of my house, more and more fans come up to me. So, more people are watching the show, but the ratings are going down? When I started the show, the ratings were really high, but nobody ever came up to me! I think a lot of this problem is the ratings system – I hope they figure it out because it’s important.

Love Young Restless, i grew up with them all started watching it in the summer of 73 when school was out, been a fan ever since.
would love to see Nick and Sharon back together again, they make the show. sorry to see Brad leave,he will be missed.
the whole cast is great.
This is the only soap i watch.

Hate to see Brad leave, he is a good actor, Sharon needs to go on being Sharon, dont know what she wants. Nick and Phyllis stay together. Like the new Noah, and Billy!!!!!! He is the BOMB!

I have watched the Young and Restless since the firt day it aired on CBS. The cast is like my extended family. I have several favoriates-Victor & Katheryn(Mrs. C) but Nick and Sharon has always been my favoriate couple and I am looking forward to them being together again . Real love never dies and Soul Mates are meant to be together forever. Sharon and Nick are Soul Mates. Sharon is a great actress and I hope The Young and Restless will be on for another 35 years.

I really enjoy Young and Restless.I hope that Sharon and Nick get back together and live as husband and wife. I will be glad when it come out that Phyllis baby is Jack. That way she will not have any hold whatsoever on Nick.

I like Sharon’s character but I don’t want to see Nick and Sharon back together. I am so sick of them and they were a little boring. It’s over and now that the old writer is back, she is going back the old show and that is not cool. Personally I took B&B and Y&R off my tivo lineup.It is just too unbelievable now.

l want Nick n Phyllis to stay together so that when it does come out that the baby is Jack’s, Nick will see how it feels!! LOL. Get Sharon with some one else. And can’t wait to see Victor GIVE it to Jack, lol!!

I love Young and the Restless, have been watching it a long, long time. I wish that Nick and Sharon could get back together…Jack and Phyllis deserve each other. Sharon is so sweet and Nick is so cute, so get them back together and let them be happy.

Sharon Case was so polished,classy and sweet. She is my favorite character on Y&R and always has been. I love that she and Nick reunited recently. They are awesome together.

I make sure to support the ratings by tuning in on tv and having my freinds tune in and not just support the fancast computer access.
I wish that Katherine wouldget back into her body and get her memory back.

I don’t know how they think the ratings are down. Can’t wait to see what’s going to happy next. Nick and Sharon are hot, also Katherine Chancellor. Have watched since 1978, hope, Katherines kidnapped story doesn’t go too long. I guess now it will come out Jill is not her real daughter!

I love Sharon and Nick together, I really hope they get back together. Phyllis got what she deserved, now she knows how Sharon felt. Sharon always gets the crappy end of the deal. Not fair. Hope Sharon is pregnant!! Love the show, by far the best soap. Only watch Y&R. TiVo every episode!

Y & R is the best show on daytime. Love the new writing, much better…Love Sharon Case – my favorite. When they determine the ratings they should be able to track all the DVR’s during the day recording the show, good grief, I bet they would be shocked, we all record and we all watch as we wind down from our work day. Don’t ever take away my show.

Your interview with Sharon Case was great. I am so glad to see that one of the magazines is recognizing her true talent. She is a great actress and great addition to the Y&R. I do agree with her about the rating system. Something new should be devised, for I do believe more and more people are watching the soaps, but from their DVR’s or video equipment. Y&R is the best written soap and I do hope this interesting writing continues. Thank you for your great interview.

I want Sharon and Nick back together. They have a special chemistry when they are together. When they are making love it is so passionate. Nick and Phyllis’ lovemaking is so hungry and ravenous. They are like animals in mating season. Phyllis and Jack need to get together and raise their daughter, Summer. I think that the mysterious woman promoting Jack’s image is his estranged ex-wife, Lindsay Wells. Victor Newman has paid for her to have plastic surgery so they can bring Jack to his knees.

Nick and Phyllis kissing like they just met is getting old! Some of Katherine’s corny storylines too. Love the Jack, Sharon, Nick and Phyllis love problems – always sparks flying! Victor and Jack always trying to get revenge is old too. They need some
ew storylines! People want and mystery. The old Phyllis was way more fun and Nikki needs to get back in shape to keep the part. She has a high salary job – alot of other actors could fill – she needs to earn and look the part she is playing!

I love Sharon from Young and the Restless but I did stop watching the show recently. The storylines became so Ridiculous,ha,ha,ha,ha,.Although, I love Sharons character and she is so pretty.

Y and R is the only soap I watch. Its awsome and I do hope it doesnt go off air. I like all the people on the show. My favorite actress is sharon . She is everything i love in a woman. Great look , great smile and great acting. She is totally HOT. I think im in love.
The best actor is Victor. The show wouldnt be the same without him.
