Michael Jackson’s Memorial to Pre-empt Soap Operas? (UPDATED!)
The memorial for the death of an icon may pre-empt soap operas Tuesday.
Updated on July 7:
All ABC soaps will be airing Tuesday’s episodes on Wednesday.
Those of you who watch CBS soaps, and are on the East Coast, please take note of some scheduling changes that may affect your areas. The air times have been moved in some places to re-air for:
The Young and the Restless 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
The Bold and the Beautiful 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM
Guiding Light may come on, already in progress, after the memorial ends at 2:30 PM
Some areas, if not all, will now air Tuesday’s episode of As The World Turns in full on Wednesday.
Previously Reported on July 6:
The world has heard the sad news about superstar Michael Jackson’s untimely passing at age 50, June 25. The memorial planned for the late performer will be held on live television, Tuesday July 7 at 10:00 AM PST, 1:00 PM EST, which means that some of your favorite soap operas may be pre-empted due to coverage. Those who faithfully watch All My Children, The Young and The Restless and Days Of Our Lives may miss their soaps Tuesday, and Soap Opera Fan is not certain whether or not they will be aired at a later time. As long as Soaps.com and Soap Opera Fan are able to view the shows, we’ll bring you the updates at our usual times, which is right after the shows air. [Edited to add NBC statement - "The Tues. (Jul. 7) episode of DAYS will be preempted due to Michael Jackson funeral coverage. The episode will now air Wed. (Jul. 8)"]

He isn’t a President or a King/Queen of a country. Why does his memorial rate pre-empting programs?

I don’t know why they have to give so much coverage to this I liked Michael Jackson as an entertainer althought I thought some of his dance moves were inappropriate for the typical age of his audience. NBC why not take of some of the ridiculous shows once in a while & leave Days on instead!!! I know it will never happen but it sure would be nice

Barbara, Cheryl and Carol, I triple that Ugh!

I agree. The coverage of Michael Jackson is obscene. How many time to we have to listen to the same repetive stories. I’ve heard about “Bubbles” the chimp at least 15 times. The more important news,ie politics, North Korea, Russia, Iran, Iraq is reduced to scrolls along the bottom of the TV.

Good grief!!! I feel sorry for Michael Jackson’s family but come on. Do we have to have it broadcast on every single channel? Hopefully, today’s show of The Young and the Restless will be broadcast on the Soap channel tonight.

maybe you weren’t big fans of Michael Jackson, what if the was back in 1997 when Princess Diana was killed? Would still show disrespect? I didn’t mind missing Days again today for Michael Jackson’s memorial I think you all should be ashamed of showing such disrespect to him, how would you
like it if that was you in that casket? Days will be on again but Michael Jackson is gone and I really hope he can rest in peace. Shame on you all.

To Patti, if you were famous, had fans around the world would it matter to you if they grieved the way people are grieving for Michael Jackson? Did you grieve when “Princess” Diana was killed? I use quotation marks because she was stripped of that title when her divorce went through, but look at what the Royal family did for her, they broadcast her funeral around the world as well, was she more “worthy” of that then Michael Jackson? I don’t think so.

What a hideous show has been put on for this weird geek, — who for sure was a pedophile, and a pervert. I and everyone I know, including my childen and grandchilden think his whiney, whimpering, simpering voice & his contortional movements were gross. He hopefully has found “peace at last”, after living his disgusting, expensive life trying to become a “white woman”.
I believe in people doing their own thing as long as it doesn’t harm others. This weirdo has “captured” the negro world, but NOT the white world, believe it!!!

I totally agree with Jen. RIP MJ, you will be loved forever! So what Days’ is moved back… It’s not like today is the day that Nicole will finally get whats coming to her!!

Rest in Peace MJ. There will be other Days episodes but there will be no other Michael Jackson. I hope the juveniles on this board grow up soon.

It’s all about the money. NBC jumped on board after they saw the nonstop reporting on Michael Jackson made CNN’s ratings jump to the top. CNN has been in the bottom ratings for a long time now and any chance to improve ratings will be taken. That is why we are seeing overkill nonstop on the Michael Jackson death on NBC too.

i liked his songs but i don’t like the fact that they are already wearing his death out on t.v. i am already sick of seeing it and hearing about it

would you care to maybe point out the Canadian channels that air stuff about Michael Jackson’s death? It’s not always about money or ratings, maybe down in the U.S.A it is but how much did his family spend on this and for his burial plot and whatever else they have to pay for when it comes to funerals. If you don’t want to see anything about Michael Jackson (and for the next while we will then turn off your tv and go for a walk, don’t go shopping unless you have to and play Cd’s instead of the radio. I plan to enjoy what I can of my childhood hero and remember he was a human that was made to look bad by the media

I think we all have freedom to watch what we want. Get a grip.
