Erica a.k.a. Scarlet 0′Hara, Jack a.k.a. Rhett Butler:
ERICA: “Jack, don’t leave me! I need you!”
JACK: “Frankly, Erica, I don’t give a damn.”
SCARLET: “Rhett, where will you go? What will I do? Rhett, I love you!”
RHETT: “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.”
If there was ever any question that Erica’s character was based upon Scarlet O’Hara from “Gone with the Wind,” this scene should put to rest any doubt what so ever. “Gone with the Wind” is widely considered to be one of the classic romance novels of all times. Perhaps “All My Children” should be considered one of the classic romance novels for television of all time.
Goodbye, Pine Valley. I won’t be following you to the wide world web but I will forever cherish the many memories you’ve given me over the years. Memories of two star crossed lovers who find their special star and hold on to it throughout their lives together and apart (Tad and Dixie) and children who grow up amidst the confusing realities of social pressure, teen angst, familial betrayals and lost loves to become fully rounded, well adjusted adults (Bianca and Angie/Jessie’s son whose name escapes me for a moment). And, of course, through it all I will forever hold close the incredible memory of a valiant, self confident (albeit erotica), young woman who once chased away a grizzly bear with the mere force of her indomitable will by shouting, “Don’t you dare come near me! Don’t you know who I am? I AM ERICA CAIN!”
Here’s to Pine Valley, to all the hero’s and heroines, the villains and the lunatics, here’s to Erica and Tad (my darling cad) and, most of all here’s to the Queen and Creator Madam Agnes Dixon to whom we all owe so much. You will all live on our minds and our hearts, the very best of our Daytime Memories. – PEACE -

I was very disappointed by the final week of All My Children. It was all about Erika and was actually nauseating. I have always liked the character of Erika and I like Susan Lucci, but I wanted the last week to a tribute to the entire history of the show, not just Erika. All the talk about her star living on forever was sickly. I wanted to see former stars return, see clips from the past, and witness a farewell that did more than have Joe Martin in the background. I am not sure what happened there, but it was not a fitting end to a show that owes its success to many actors and characters, not just one.
