General Hospital Welcomes Back Ian Buchanan.

The secret is out!

Monday’s episode unveiled the big secret “General Hospital’s” Frank Valentini teased last week: Duke Lavery (Ian Buchanan) is alive and well and has Robin (Kimberly McCullough). The reveal has led to several questions, which might not be answered for some time, as Buchanan won’t be seen again for a few weeks. While we wait for those answers, let’s relive what we do know about Duke Lavery.

Duke first met Anna (Finola Hughes) at the Port Charles Policeman’s Ball in 1986. Though he worked for the mob, he had a soft spot for the then police commissioner and her daughter Robin. Robert (Tristan Rogers) returned to town and was immediately suspicious of the Scotsman. Duke eventually confessed his criminal ties, but helped Anna and Robert take down those he worked for.

Duke and Anna got married in 1987, but the mob hadn’t completely left Duke’s life. Things became dangerous when he testified against them, so Duke faked his death and entered witness protection in 1989. However, he retuned later that year after mob boss Victor Jerome died, but he had a new face and identity. Just as Anna learned who he was, Duke was killed in 1990.

As already reported, “General Hospital” executive producer Frank Valentini told TV Guide Magazine they would reveal the Duke with the different face was an imposter. The Duke who showed up at the Swiss clinic on August 27 is the real deal.

But the question remains: Where has Duke been all these years and why the heck did he fake Robin’s death? Share your theories in the comments below.
