In honor of Veterans Day, this week’s show had a military theme and the audience was filled with members of the armed services, including former soldier and “DWTS” champion J.R. Martinez (ex-Brot, “All My Children”). It’s also a double elimination week, since no one was booted last time. So the stakes were high. In addition, the couples performed two dances. One on their own and one with a third member during the trio round.
First up, Kelly & Val danced the Viennese Waltz. Len thought it flowed nicely, but the movements were too sharp on occasion. The crowd booed and Carrie Ann interrupted to say it was beautiful and lyrical. Bruno called Kelly a “twinkling twirler,” who never lost the beat and gave it all her soul. Carrie Ann gave Kelly more praise for her commitment every week. Carrie Ann & Bruno gave them 9.5s, while Len awarded them a 9.
For their trio, Kelly & Val picked eliminated pro Louis Van Amstel to join them for their jive. Len thought it was fun, fast, flamboyant and fabulous. Bruno thought Kelly handled the difficulty of bouncing between both partners well. Carrie Ann also thought Kelly’s transitions between Val and Louis were seamless. The trio received three 9.5s from the judges.
Tune in tomorrow to find out if Kelly & Val survive another week, or if they are one of two couples going home. If they make it another week, they will dance to one of Michael Jackson’s songs from the “Bad” album.
