Is there too much Harmony in Salem?

The cast of Passions continues to emigrate to town. First there was Galen Gering (Rafe), then Eric Martsolf (Brady) and now Lindsay Hartley has joined the cast as Arianna. The two shows had a long and slightly incestuous relationship, sharing some actors and many writers and crew members over the years, but for some, Salem may be looking a little too much like Harmony. The kidnapping continues, but more than a few thing seem off.

Not only is it plagued by Bo’s less than reliable visions, it also involves most of the town’s other incompetent cops. The only cop who seems to be on the ball at all is the one behind the crime. Unfortunately for him, he seems to have teamed up with a moron and a sociopathic woman. With the hysterics, the odd facial expressions and the over-the-top dialogue, it’s sometimes hard to know what to think. Read the rest of this entry »

For some reason, Days of Our Lives is rarely short of comas.

Of course, the circumstances and nature of many of the comas have been different over the years. Some have been caused by accidents, but usually they are murder attempts gone wrong, or, as when Marlena put Stefano in a coma, attempts at unending torture. Read the rest of this entry »

Okay, I’ll admit it – the show wasn’t that great this week. But it did have a few good bits here and there. Victor was around for those who enjoy snarky remarks, Nicole managed to cry more than Sami, EJ didn’t make any ear splintering screams and Brady showed some of his emotional fragility. Sometimes love isn’t enough.

On Monday, Salem’s biggest drama queen, Sami, will tell Rafe that, “I don’t need surprises, I just need you.” Is this a sign that Safe will be playing it safe to the point of blandness, or just a sign of worse things to come for the couple? They’re hardly the only unstable couple in town. Steph and Philip break up as often as not and Nicole and EJ are about as stable as two mentally unstable people can be. There were some mysterious goings on in Salem this week.

She’s been settling in for months but we still know close to nothing about Rafe’s sister Arianna. This week it was suggested that she used to be involved with someone who had a substance abuse problem. Her talks with her brother frequently hint at some dark secret between them. Adding to the mystery, she made a hush-hush phone call telling someone that she’s finally manager of the pub and ready for the next step. While all of the signs first pointed to Nathan hooking up with Melanie, it appears as though something, or someone, could get in the way. Stephanie literally bumped into the young intern fresh from ending things with Philip. Could be be her rebound guy? If he is, does that mean that there is hope for Mel and Philip? He’s been around for months but there’s the lingering suspicion that we still don’t know much about what’s going on beneath the surface of Rafe Hernandez.

Sami set herself the task of digging into his past and so has Stefano. What kind of skeletons could be hidden in the closet of the kid from the bad side of town who spent years as an FBI operative? And why has he been so desperate to keep Sami in the dark about his past with Emily Hudson, the twenty nine year old dead girl he continues to mourn? Even if he does come clean about something, that doesn’t mean that he isn’t hiding more. He never even said he had a sister until Sami accused him of having an affair with Arianna after all.
