The best of the blogs.

There was plenty of romance, intrigue and, of course, fireworks on Daytime last week as the summer heat seemed to get to everyone. Gabi has officially lost her mind if she was okay with Andrew holding Mel in his creepy basement on “DOOL.” This was supposed to be her best friend! She has officially crossed the line. Sam and John locked lips at the dock under the Port Charles fireworks display on “GH,” while Michael and Starr did the same at their barbecue. Daniel was cleared on “Y&R,” but still no sign of the huge knife Ricky had. Where is it? As for the drama on “B&B,” let’s just say Liam has a lot of explaining to do. Read more about what happened on your favorite soaps.

Restless Rant:

Despite all of the murder drama – and Victoria’s evil and uncalled for rant at Chelsea – there was some definite heat brewing between Abby and Carmine. Candace says, “Well, it’s official. I can’t get enough of Abby and Carmine. When she was kneeling in front of him telling him she had his back today I was nearly leaping out of my seat for them to kiss – and they did! Hot! Katherine’s annual Fourth of July barbecue also had some good moments – such as Devon reconnecting with Katherine and Tucker. Ashley being straight with Harmony was refreshing – at least one person isn’t leaping on the bandwagon to kiss Super Harmony’s butt – even Sofia’s lobbying on Harmony’s behalf with Neil. Give me a break.” Read more at Young And The Restless Weekly Blog.

The best of the blogs.

Here is the great thing about watching all of the Daytime soaps left to watch – when one is slowing down, another one is usually heating up. And that is totally what happened for me last week. “Y&R” has been a sleeper for me lately, but last week I was on the edge of my seat every time Ricky was on the screen. This is one bad dude! And, the storyline is moving along at such a steady clip, I couldn’t help but be excited. “GH” last week set the stage for reveals to come, and hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to get some satisfaction. Liam and Hope finally tied the knot on “B&B,” but don’t count Steffy out yet – did they or didn’t they when they were along in the hotel? And on “DOOL,” Lexi’s memorial took some air out of the Stefano investigation and Melanie kidnapping – expect for that killer kick she got in on Andrew’s head! Let’s get into what else happened last week.

Deconstructing Days:

So are Sami and Lucas a couple or not? We know they are, so why not show us some heat between these two? And one person we are dying to see get more of a storyline is Sonny, especially since he admitted he has feelings for Will that go beyond friendship. Some people think it is too soon for Will to jump into something serious, but who can’t use more drama in their lives? Christine says, “We got to see Sonny again and learned what we’d already suspected, which is that he cares for Will for more than a friend. It was really sweet and something I’d love to see long-term but for now I am enjoying EJill and Will doesn’t need to be thrown into a monogamous relationship for a while. Where’s Neil anyway? ” Read more at Days Of Our Lives Weekly Blog.

The best of the blogs.

Budding love was my theme for the week as new couples seemed to pop up out of nowhere. Nicole and Dr. Daniel on “DOOL” were generating some heat, kind of. But why? I’ll put this one on pregnancy hormones. Also progressing on “DOOL” were Abby and Cameron, who I am not really sold on to begin with. And who was Will’s friend who stepped up with an alibi? According to him they had been out together a few times. Interesting. On “GH,” Ewen and Liz finally had their date, no thanks to Jason, and Starr and Trey shacked up and bickered like an old married couple. We all know what that leads to. Adam and Chelsea grew on me on “Y&R,” but Hope and Liam still have not made it to the altar on “B&B.” Let’s see what else happened last week on Daytime.

Deconstructing Days:

Poor Melanie. And poor Chad. Talk about having a rough week. He lost his dad not too long ago, his sister dies and his girlfriend runs off to Europe to avoid him. Why is no one thinking how crazy this is considering all the trauma Chad has gone through. Melanie comes off looking like a selfish brat when she’s really being held captive by a wannabe stalker. As for Carrie, she has much more at stake than her marriage if she fools around with Rafe. She could also be into some torture by Kate with a dagger. Christine says, “Friday had Kate telling Carrie to stay in the right bed, proving she hasn’t lost her flair for the dramatic when she noticed the clandestine look Rafe and Carrie gave each other and responded by purchasing Carrie a lovely silver dagger as a warning. So creative but Carrie’s weak. She’ll have more issues trying to keep her skivvies on in the weeks to come.” Read more at Days Of Our Lives Weekly Blog.

The best of the blogs.

There are quite a few Daytime characters who found themselves on the hot seat last week and it isn’t looking like there is going to be relief for many of them anytime soon. Connie revealed she had a son when she was a teenager and Lulu paired up with Johnny, causing friction all around on “GH,” Phyllis got in deeper with Ricky and Daisy on “Y&R,” Will was the main suspect in Stefano’s murder on “DOOL” and on “B&B,” Bill got ready to unleash Deacon for some real havoc. So much to cover, so let’s get into it.

Deconstructing Days:

It was all about DiMera drama last week in Salem, what with Stefano’s memorial service and EJ bailing young Will out. In typical fashion, the service was dramatic, thanks to Sami. And it’s hard to guess where this is all going, but it is possible that Ian is really EJ’s father, or Stefano is still alive and still EJ’s father. Regardless, despite his arrest, Will seems to be having the time of his life. Christine says, “Are you as puzzled as I am that EJ posted William’s bail? Seems to me that Will’s secretly happy that EJ owns him again, what with all that smirking and smiling, but how does EJ really know young William didn’t do it? Because he did? I don’t believe that because I still say Stefano’s alive. Later in the week we saw EJ tossing his black gloves into a bin at the pier everyone frequents. Was his fireplace not in working order? What if someone were to have followed him and collected the gloves? Can’t they be printed and tested for gunshot residue? Methinks EJ is slipping and that William’s going to be the one to catch him at it.” Read more at Days Of Our Lives Weekly Blog.

The best of the blogs.

Some of the most classic soap storylines involve swapped babies, fudged DNA results and deep-rooted daddy issues. Last week we were treated to all of that and so much more on all of the Daytime stories. And really, what would we do without all of that overwrought drama? I know who the father is to my kids, so I can stand the dose of daily drama. So let’s get into it.

Deconstructing Days:

So there were eight sets of prints on the gun. Really? And more than half of them were by seasoned professionals who know, at the very least, not to touch a gun. Sure. Also love how Sami couldn’t believe Will was capable of shooting Stefano. Hello? He did the exactly same thing to EJ not that long ago. Gabi’s stalker routine is also getting really old, and I really can’t stand watching her gasp and sound scared any longer. And what is up with the sudden hot-and-heaviness of Daniel and Nicole’s relationship. How odd that he just swapped the results for her. Christine says, “We learned that Daniel not only still gets off on getting his hands and his lips on his patients but now, he seems to have forgotten that doctors generally are also frowned upon for switching paternity tests for a patient. With everything he went through with Chloe, there is no motivation for him to do this, especially when he has no history with Nicole. Nicole told EJ “lab tests don’t lie,” making me roll my eyes. I’m surprised EJ didn’t bark out a laugh. In Salem, everyone and everything lies.” Read more at Days Of Our Lives Weekly Blog.

The best of the blogs.

Last week was all kinds of fun on Daytime. Maybe because we were shorted a day on most of the shows, we were able to truly appreciate what we were given the remaining days that much more. Sam and Tea both gave birth on “GH”, setting up a total baby-switch scenario. Anthony’s body is still hanging around too, adding the right amount of comedy. Hope’s day is about to make a return on “B&B,” and as Bill’s puppet, it can only mean great drama for the whole family. On “Y&R,” Ricky dug quite a bit deeper into Phyllis’ past. And hello? Stefano was shot! What a week. Let’s get into it.

Deconstructing Days:

Lots of classic soap goodness in Salem last week. Lexi overheard Abe accuse Stefano of causing the tumor, which was a devastating blow. And after setting up everyone with a motive and a gun, Stefano was shot. And of course, Nicole got busted pulling a DNA swap. No surprise there, but EJ is going to be so mad! Christine says, “Nicole switched the DNA samples so Rafe will appear as her baby dada but that won’t deter EJ. I was surprised Daniel pulled a Rafe and let go of his ‘good man’ persona to allow her to commit the ‘Sami Brady’ of all crimes – the DNA switch. The random kiss shared by Daniel and Nicole didn’t fit into the scene and though I’ve enjoyed their chemistry maybe three months ago, I’m pretty sure they’re not a good fit personality-wise. We all know Nicole likes to manipulate to get what she wants. Daniel’s a ‘nice guy’ so I’m not sure how it’ll work and besides, Brady’ll be single again soon…” Read more at Days Of Our Lives Weekly Blog.

Soaps Digest Column.

The best of the blogs.

When a soap opera makes me react out loud, whether it is a gasp at some kind of reveal, tears at an emotional scene or out-loud laughter at some sort of ridiculousness, it makes me sad we have just four Daytime shows left. Especially, since all four of them delivered on all fronts last week. Hope’s dad’s comments about Bill’s sissy-boy jewelry and hair gel on “B&B” comes to mind. So does Tracy and Luke’s corpse-capades on “GH.” Or Austin’s over-the-top reaction to a cringing Carrie’s pregnancy on “DOOL.”  But even with all that there was just so much more that happened, so let’s get into it.

Deconstructing Days:

Of all the shows, this one seems to be struggling the most right now. While it’s always great to see Roman and Marlena and Hope and John in some caper, the impending death of Lexi and EJ’s non-DiMero status have left us reeling. Not to mention characters we know and love are just not acting like themselves anymore, and top of the list is Rafe. Once confident and charismatic, he is doing to Austin what was just done to himself. Christine says, “I felt for both parties and hope that once Maggie has had time to work through her anger and shock that she’ll eventually forgive him. Even though what he did was pretty ghastly. I found his explanation of needing time to get used to being accountable to someone else quite understandable and compelling.” Read more at Days Of Our Lives Weekly Blog.

Soaps Digest Column.

May 21st, 2012 by Hollie Deese

The best of the blogs.

Soaps are at their best when they focus on the relationships, and that is what every show seems to be doing right now. On “Days,” Carrie thinks she knows what is best by moving forward with Rafe, but may be railroaded before she gets a chance. Meanwhile, Will’s connection to his parents is being tested as he comes out and Lexi tries to spend as much time with her loved ones before she dies. In Port Charles, Maxie and Matt’s bond is being put to the test, while Todd tries to forge a stronger bond with his daughter. Johnny works to make amends with Carly and Jason and Sam remain at a distance. On “B&B,” Thomas proved he was the kind of man Caroline could get serious about while Hope and Steffy still hold out hope for a future with Liam. And on “Y&R,” tension continues to build and bonds are broken as everyone seems to be caught up in an emotional whirlwind. So let’s get down to it and see where we stood last week.

Deconstructing Days:

After watching Carrie and Rafe’s hot and heavy makeout sesh, Austin is going to have to do a little better than a scrapbook if he wants to save his marriage. It will help once she is back with him and dealing with a possible pregnancy. But that was minor compared to the biggest thing to happen in Salem last week, Will’s reveal to his parents Lucas and Sami that he is gay. And, of course, Sami reacted as childishly as we thought she would. Christine says, “Sami (say it with me) screwed up again and it was EJ who was the voice of reason. Sami’s never been very pragmatic and thankfully, EJ seems to be everywhere she is these days, when she needs an ear. Can you see where this relationship seems to be slowly headed? Just putting it out there. I digress. Sami was overwhelmed by the news of Will shooting EJ, Lucas going to jail, EJ blackmailing Will, and then finally she heard her son’s gay. I’d have been happy to have some good news after all the shooting and blackmail news but Sami made it all about her.” Read more at Days Of Our Lives Weekly Blog.

Soaps Digest Column.

May 14th, 2012 by Hollie Deese

The best of the blogs.

After all of the action the past few weeks, things are settling down a bit in Daytime. If you can consider surprise weddings, cross dressing designers and secretive druggings calm.

Deconstructing Days:

I never thought an explosion could be anti-climactic before the safe house blew to smithereens. No one was injured at all, not even Roman who was not in a fortified basement but right outside the door. Other than that is was a pretty sad week in Salem as everyone came to terms with the “death” of Bo, John, Rafe, Carrie, Marlena and Hope or the impending death of Lexi. Austin’s scrap booking was certainly an unintended bit of comic relief, but very much welcomed. The biggest mystery of all is what the heck kind of drugs did Ian slip Brady? Christine says, “I don’t understand Kate. By her own admission, she made a big mistake bedding Ian, yet still she dates him, knowing that she’s in love with Stefano. Is she afraid to be alone? And what is Ian’s reason for going after her? What is the substance he’s drugging Brady with? I thought possibly steroids but doesn’t that type of aggression Brady experienced happen over time?” Read more at Days Of Our Lives Weekly Blog.

Soaps Digest Column.

May 7th, 2012 by Hollie Deese

The best of the blogs.

May sweeps certainly didn’t disappoint last week, what with all the slaps, guns,  kidnappings and murders going on – and that was just on “GH!” The crew on “Days” were also dealt a few blows last week as EJ found out he is not a DiMera (what??) and the safe house exploded. At lease Rafe finally spit it out to Carrie that Nicole is not having his baby. Speaking of, Phyllis and Nick decide to tie the knot because of their impending bundle, but not everyone is as thrilled for them as they would like. And on “B&B”, Liam changed sides again, ripped up the annulment papers and planted one on Steffy. Seriously? Why would either one of these girls be pining over a guy who goes back and forth so much? I can understand Hope, being on drugs and all, but Steffy? Let’s see what else happened this week.

Deconstructing Days:

The award for most ridiculous scene goes to Rafe and Carrie rolling up the carpet like that was going to protect them from the house exploding. But since it probably revealed their means of escape, we’ll allow it. Elsewhere, it would have taken a cold heart not to shed a tear about the whole Lexi dying/EJ not a DiMera thing. Christine says, “It was like an era had just ended. All of Stefano’s death threats lately must be foreshadowing his death. EJ’s not a DiMera, which is absolutely asinine since EJ looks exactly like Santo DiMera. Lexi’s dying and Chad doesn’t want any part of continuing on the villainy. “Days Of Our Lives” without the DiMera family? Not something I want to see.” Read more at Days Of Our Lives Weekly Blog.
