Leslie arrives at the prison with Avery and Neil to see her father. Once alone with Leslie, Gus apologizes to his daughter, but all Leslie wants to know is why he killed her mother. She saw him standing over her mother’s body, shaking her! Gus knew his wife was having an affair. He was jealous, but he didn’t kill her. Gus claims he was trying to save Leslie’s mother.
Avery refuses to drop her case – even though Nick tells her the police think it would be a good idea. He vows to protect her then makes something very clear to Wheeler. Nick warns if anything happens to Avery he’ll go after the congressman. Meanwhile, Dylan shares his theory with Avery… whoever tampered with her brakes is the same person who trashed her apartment. Avery shows Nick that she found an American Flag pin in her apartment. Nick heads out to talk to Victor, who warns his son not to do anything until they have solid proof that Wheeler is involved. Nick demands to know why Victor is dragging his feet and risking the life of the woman he loves.
Avery confronts Leslie and lets her know that she figured something out about her client – Leslie and Tyler are Gus Rogan’s kids. Leslie becomes more worried and tries to convince Avery to drop her case. Avery cannot allow a man to rot in jail for something he didn’t do. Leslie tells Avery that he killed her mother – and claims she saw him do it. Avery thinks there is more to what happened. Later, Leslie worries to Tyler that maybe they made a mistake all those years ago, considering she never actually saw their father kill their mother.
Leslie tells Tyler that someone tampered with Avery’s brakes then brings up Neil. She knows if Neil thinks her life is in danger he’s going to try to protect her. Leslie doesn’t want anyone to get hurt because of their pasts. Tyler wishes that Avery would back off the case, but Leslie informs that Avery believes that their father was falsely accused.
Nick warns Avery that he won’t call off the security guards then confronts Wheeler and asks if he knows who would want to get Avery off of her case? Who would want her dead? Wheeler appears sympathetic and suggests that whoever wants to keep Avery’s client behind bars was responsible. When Nick runs into Leslie, he asks if Avery has ever talked to her about the Gus Rogan case.
With her home life a mess, Lauren continues to fantasize about a shirtless Carmine moving in close and taking her dress off. Lauren heads down to the bar for a glass of wine. She tells Carmine she doesn’t want to jeopardize their friendship by complicating things. Later, when Carmine appears in her room, Lauren finally gives in to temptation and kisses him passionately. They have sex!
Over talk of Jamie, Paul tells Christine he informed Phyllis of Summer’s part in the bullying. Christine doesn’t think Summer has had the best example in Phyllis and is determined to make her nemesis pay for her own crimes. Michael arrives at Paul’s and asks Christine if she has found a job yet. He offers her one if she’s interested – to become the new District Attorney. Michael plans to step down and shares what’s going on at home. Paul and Christine reassure Michael before he leaves.
Carmine finds Lauren in the club dining room and asks if she wants to share a nightcap. Lauren reminds him she’s married then goes to her room. Abby appears and wants to start over. Carmine refuses, which leaves Abby to question his sudden interest in Lauren. He warns Abby his life is none of her business.
Fen confronts Summer about telling Phyllis about their involvement with Jamie and warns he’ll never forgive her. Meanwhile, Michael apologizes to Lauren for making a mistake in believing Jamie but wonders if there is something else bothering her. Lauren can’t stand the rift between Michael and Fen. When Fen appears, Michael apologizes again but admits it was terrifying to know Fen bullied Jamie without any remorse. Paul arrives with Jamie, who apologizes for lying. Fen apologizes for bullying him. However, Fen is still furious with Michael – and Lauren announces that she’s moving out.
As Nick and Avery try to get back on track in the romance department, Sharon interrupts with a call. She tells them Dylan’s been hurt in an accident. Avery goes to see Dylan, who begs her not to leave his bedside. Later, Nick and Avery take the next step in their relationship and profess their love to each other. That doesn’t seem to totally take her mind off of her ex, as Avery is stunned to hear Dylan has checked out of the hospital. Dylan, who experiences war flashbacks, ends up being scrutinized.
A severe blizzard rocks Genoa City and passions ignite… Nick takes a call from Avery, who informs him that she made it home safe. He wants to go to her, but Avery asks for time alone. Nick urges her to come back to him when she’s ready. Dylan arrives and asks Avery if they have a chance at a life together. He realizes Avery needs more time and turns to leave – but the power goes out. Avery insists he stay. They reminisce about a special night.
