Days of Our Lives’ Stephen Nichols to Appear in American Suite.

“Patch” will soon be appearing in a play in California.

When he’s not busy lurking in alleys, flying airplanes, making out with Kayla, hanging out in mental hospitals and doing the other things that he’s best known for, what does Steve “Patch” Johnson get up to? I don’t know. But I can tell you what the talented actor who plays him has been up to.

Stephen Nichols has been busy preparing a new stage production. California audiences can expect to see him in the flesh when he appears in “American Suite.” The play was written by the actor’s wife, Lisa, and takes the audience through five different vignettes, each set in a different American location.

This production of “American Suite” can be seen at the Pacific Resident Theatre located at 703, 705 1⁄2 and 707 Venice Blvd. The show will run from February 5 – 22. Show times will be at 8:00 PM on Thursdays and Fridays and 3:00 PM on Sundays.

Soap Opera Fan Blog Talks with General Hospital Writer Karen Harris.

Just so you know, this is the woman who claims Sonny and Brenda as hers!

Granted, Karen admits that no one writer can own any of the characters or storylines that they create, but Sonny and Brenda come pretty darn close! When she first came to General Hospital in 1993, Karen was asked to write the back story for Sonny’s character. Hence Bensonhurst, Deke, Joe Scully and Mike Corbin were carved out as part of Sonny’s dark side. In fact, Mike Corbin was based on her own father-in-law!

Through the years, Karen wrote scripts dealing with Luke and Laura’s return with young Lucky, Kevin and Lucy, Ned and Lois and even Tony’s goodbye to B.J. before her heart was given to young Maxie. She wrote the famous “Clink-Boom” episode in which Sonny’s pregnant wife Lily was killed in a car explosion the very moment that Brenda married Jax on out at sea. Another big part of Karen’s GH background was writing for Robin and Stone.

These days, Karen says that ‘everybody writes everybody’, as opposed to writers having specific characters to write for. She says that when she has a Robin and Patrick day, that’s a good one for her because she connects to them as a couple. She told me that she will always love putting Sonny with Kate because they are ‘very different’ from other soap couples. When I told her how much I enjoy the Spinelli-isms, she yelled, “Try writing it!” She added that she loves writing for Spinelli and that Kirsten Storms is ‘…just dynamite’.

I asked Karen about the infiltration of mob storylines in Port Charles and she thought before she replied. “It’s nice having our own identity because it’s what sets us apart. Other shows try to copy that now,” Karen told me. She added that they always try to find some level of redemption along the way for the characters. “Carly, for example, grew up after losing Michael” she said. While on the subject of ‘Carjax’, I told her that I find myself hoping that Carly and Jax make it, Karen got excited and said, “Good! I want you rooting for them!”

Karen told me that it means a lot to her when she is able to make a viewer cry. I wonder how she’d feel about the way my cheeks hurt after smiling so much during the recent two Scrubs weddings. I’m guessing that would mean something to her too.

This Year’s Changes For The 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards!

Another year with some added changes!

Come this June, we’ll all be watching the 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. The preparation for the show takes many steps, and this year there’s been a few changes implemented for along the way!

You’ll see that the normal Original Song categories will now be comprised of Original Song Drama, Original Song Children’s - Animated and Original Song Main Title and Promo, the Main Title and Graphic Design category will reflect the main title as well as any graphics used on the show, a Culinary program category has been added to represent shows containing fifty percent minimal airtime devoted to the Culinary Arts, and finally all shows will pick two pre-nominees for an in-studio preliminary ballot for each performer’s category, leading the two picks into the final voting round!

The Young and The Restless Spoilers For January 6 - 9!

Murphy runs into some cash, Gloria ruins her chances of bail, Jill gives Jack some info, and Cane and Billy’s rivalry heats up!

Though Michael makes a deal with Heather to get Gloria out on bail, her need to get Katherine on her side has Gloria pretty much admitting to the judge that she’ll leave the country! Watch for Jack to play into the mix and try to up one on Gloria, especially when Jill informs Jack that Jill’s Jabot stocks will back him should he regain more power at Jabot!

Jack will be making a confession this week - one that will have Sharon running for divorce court! And she’s not the only angry female in the bunch, Ashley will also have daggers flaring for Victor when she finds out something about the great man!

After Michael found out about the money Kevin stole back, he warned his brother to do the right thing - and Kevin will end up giving all the cash to Murphy to help Katherine!

Phyllis thinks with Victor back at Newman that Nick will resign, but she’s wrong! In fact, Nick will want to stay on at Newman to make his dad proud and will upset Phyllis further by agreeing to go on a business trip to New York with Sharon! However, Phyllis will make Sharon aware that she better stay away from her husband! Look for Phyllis to also convince Daniel to become their new cover model, which may play into her plan to keep Sharon away - or to give her an extra set of eyes!

With Cane finding out that his lost love Lily is now dating his wayward brother, expect their lack of bonding to continue at great heights!

General Hospital Spoilers for January 7 - 8!

Here are some mini teasers for Wednesday and Thursday:

The holidays are over folks and plenty is happening in Port Chuck. It seems that The Metro Court has put in a splashy new pool and Carly invites Jax to test the waters. She stands him up, however, to go put her two cents worth in with Sonny about his business with Jason. When Jax realizes what has happened, he switches his attentions to Olivia, who wants no part in swimming with her new boss.

After Carly urges Sonny not to cross Jason and cause a bigger rift between them, they discuss the mistakes they’ve made through the years. (And, they even manage to keep their pants on while doing it!)

Meanwhile, instead of working on their clients’ divorce, Diane suggests to Alexis that they help Jax and Carly to reconcile.

Alexis is a busy lady. She also set up a Senate hearing so that Nadine can testify against Equinox and Nikolas has his hands full building her self confidence.

Sweet, innocent Winifred gets in Maxie’s face with a warning of her own. After Spinelli tells Maxie that he doesn’t believe her, she seduces him. This can’t end up well, ya think?

Sam spies Liz and Lucky have a good time together. What are they talking about? Well, Lucky is crying on Liz’s shoulder about how badly things are going for him and Sam.

Luke and Sonny have a sit down to discuss the balance of power in Port Chuck. Later, Ric goes to Luke with a warning.

Days of Our Lives Spoilers for January 12-16.

Lust, jealousy and a new target for the DiMeras…

Last year’s plots are being put to rest. After spending months in detention, Nick returns to receive his sentence. Will he give a public apology as promised? And will Melanie really make Maggie as proud as she’s promised to? She may be in for some more complications soon. It looks like Stefano and EJ are expanding their business interests. This time it means plotting to take control of the Alternative Fuels Project. Could this sprout a flirtation between Mel and Elvis like she had with Philip, or does this mean that we’re looking at another DiMera-Kiriakis war?

At least Stefano and Elvis won’t have John to contend with anymore. Since John basically abandoned his battle with the family, he’s done nothing but obsess over Marlena. Now he is finally getting closer to his goal. Brady will discover some evidence that his father is really remembering Marlena and they life they had.

Meanwhile, Salem’s fair weather gal pals will be embarking on some new adventures. Following weeks of creepy flirting and the copping of many feels through hospital gowns, ball gowns and nightgowns, Chloe and Daniel finally get naked together. Will it live up to their fantasies? On a different note, Nicole takes Mia, the mother of ‘her child’ to the DiMera mansion. She hopes that showing her Stefano’s exquisite interior design will help convince her that it’s a great place to raise a kid.

Across town, romance takes a backseat to other things when Philip realizes that he must reassign Stephanie to another supervisor at work. Will this cut in on their time together, or just give them more excuses to sneak away? Her free time is going to be full. Chelsea still thinks she’s sticking her nose a little too far into Max’s business. She’s going to issue a warning to Stephanie, but is she really concerned, or just getting territorial?

Recently, Soap Opera Fan Blog chatted it up with The Young and the Restless actor Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) about his new movie “The Man Who Came Back.” So, how’s his film been doing when put against others in the entertainment business? Remarkable!

In fact, over the holidays, the film came out on top on the rental list, as well as gaining a spot in the Top Ten Video Sales for a non-theatrical release!

Soap Opera Fan Blog is happy to report that our sister soap, Soaps.com ferreted out the truth about rumors of “General Hospital: Night Shift” not being picked up for a third season. While other sites are reporting the demise of SOAPnet’s original nighttime drama, Soaps.com is now able to report that no such decision has been made.
